5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
The UG Research Conclave was organised on Tuesday, 18 March 2025, at the Seminar Hall of the Biorepository Building. It was a significant gathering that brought together all mentees of Dr Denis Xavier, alongside other students keen on exploring research opportunities. The event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of research practices, showcase ongoing projects and inspire young researchers to engage in meaningful academic pursuits. Dr Tony Raj, Dean of the Research Institute; Dr Deepa S, Senior Research Scientist, Division of Clinical Research and Training; and Dr Deepak Kamath, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, were also present.
Dr Denis Xavier, Professor and Head of Dept. of Pharmacology, provided an insightful overview of the various projects undertaken by the mentees. He elaborated on the wide range of topics covered and highlighted the diligent work completed by each group, showcasing their dedication and commitment to research excellence.
Dr Tony Raj, the Dean of St John's Research Institute (SJRI), delivered a compelling address emphasising the importance of such programs. He discussed the valuable opportunities available to students and recognised the significant contributions made by SJRI in the realm of research. Dr Raj also highlighted SJRI's recent achievements, which have further cemented the institute's reputation as a leader in research and innovation. He introduced the students to the recent ICMR achievements, namely, the Centre of Advanced Research and the Collaborating Centre of Excellence.
Following the Dean's address, each group presented the current status of their research projects. After each presentation, a round of Q&A and mentor feedback enriched the discussions. Below is a summary of the group presentations:
After the presentations, a dinner was arranged at the Terrace of Pope Paul Auditorium. This provided an excellent opportunity for students to interact with members from other groups. Each participant was able to introduce themselves and share their special interests that may not have been known to the larger gathering.
Conclusion
The conclave successfully served as a platform for students to exchange ideas, learn from experienced researchers, and gain insights into the scope and impact of research in their respective fields. It was a testament to the mentors' commitment to nurturing the next generation of researchers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in academia.
